Azerbaijani Public Television and Radio Company (Ictimai TV) has released the music and video for Efendi, who represents Azerbaijan in Eurovision Song Contest. The singer will perform the entry called ‘Mata Hari’ in Rotterdam.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

The team behind of the music for Efendi consists of Amy van der Wel, Josh Earl, Luuk van Beers<\/em><\/strong> (he was also one of the songwriters of \u201cCleopatra\u201d) and Tony Cornelissen<\/em><\/strong> (the producer of \u201cCleopatra\u201d).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

The Azerbaijani Head of Delegation, Isa Malikov commented this about the song:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

The song <\/em><\/strong>\u201cMata Hari\u201d<\/strong><\/em> is inspired from the life story of the strong and independent woman<\/em><\/strong> who had great spirit and was not afraid of taking risks<\/em><\/strong>. That is why we are still talking about her story.<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n

In the song, ethnic motives based on traditional Azerbaijani musical instruments are used, such as zurna<\/em><\/strong> (trumpet) and na\u011fara<\/em><\/strong> (drums), as well as melodies from the Azerbaijani folk dance yall\u0131<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

Besides that, for the first time in the Eurovision history Azerbaijan uses the Azerbaijani language, which concludes: \u201cYalan da m\u0259n, yanan da m\u0259n, yaman da m\u0259n\u201d<\/strong> – ‘I am the lie, the burning one, the relentless one’<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
